Lilydale Heights College

Lilydale Heights College is a government secondary college in the Melbourne outer eastern suburb of Lilydale.
In 2009,the school has operated with a 1:2 notebook program with trolleys of 13 notebooks available to classes.
There has been a trial of 1:1 UMPCs in the library.
In 2010, we are moving to a 1:1 program of netbooks.
With this in mind, we chose the Professional Development focus for our PLPNetbooks Reflective Project.

The Project

In brief:

  • Our PLP project aims to assist staff to embrace 21st century technologies in preparation for the impending introduction of one to one netbooks in 2010.
  • We are exploring and roadtesting a range of web 2.0 tools for classroom use and providing professional development for teachers.
  • We conducted an initial survey of staff use of web 2.0 tools both personally and with classes. This will be followed up during 2010 with a mid and end of year survey to monitor progress.
  • We set up a wiki to provide easy access to the roadtested tools. Each entry provides a brief description of the tool, suggested curriculum applications, samples, details of roadtesting, registration requirements, potential pitfalls and instructions for use.
